USA Student Visa Rule Changes in 2026
The United States is reviewing possible changes to its F-1 student visa system for international students in 2026.
According to recent reports, a proposed DHS rule under review may replace the current “Duration of Status” (D/S) system with a fixed stay period of up to four years for some students. The proposal could also include additional documentation checks, shorter grace periods after course completion, and extension requirements after the approved stay period.
The proposed changes are still under review and have not been officially implemented. Education experts advise students planning for Fall 2026 intakes to stay updated with official immigration announcements and begin their application preparation early.
Students are also encouraged to prepare strong financial documents, clear Statements of Purpose (SOPs), and complete application requirements well before university deadlines.
Visa policies may change over time, and students should always refer to official government and university sources for the latest updates.
