South Korea Surpasses 300,000 International Student Target Early
South Korea has exceeded its “Study Korea 300K” goal ahead of schedule, marking a major achievement in its international education strategy.
The country originally set a target to host 300,000 international students, and the milestone has now been reached earlier than expected, reflecting the growing global appeal of South Korean universities.
With this objective achieved, the government is shifting its focus from increasing student numbers to improving the overall quality and sustainability of its international education system.
Future policies are expected to emphasize stronger post-study work opportunities, closer ties between universities and industries, and better pathways for international graduates to stay and work in South Korea.
This change signals a clear move from expansion-focused policies to long-term talent retention and sustainable development of the international student ecosystem.
